Nighat Dad is a pioneer in the field of digital rights and online harassment in Pakistan and globally. She founded Pakistan’s first dedicated cyber harassment helpline and is involved in advocacy for privacy legislation at the national level. She is the recipient of several international awards, including being listed as TIME Magazine’s Next-Generation Leader in 2015, and the Atlantic Council Freedom Award and Human Rights Tulip Award in 2016. Nighat is also a trained lawyer and has worked extensively to protect human rights and freedoms in online spaces.
In five years, Nighat hopes to make the internet a safe and inclusive space for all – including women, religious minorities and marginalized ethic groups. She hopes to work towards online spaces where the right to free speech, personal dignity, privacy and equal participation is guaranteed for all.
